About Me

Hi and welcome!
Here's a little about me.

I've been a teaching since 2008 and love it more every year! I'm originally from Western New York, but moved to Alaska to teach because there weren't any jobs at home. My one year adventure turned permanent when I realized how awesome Alaska is! I get to see the northern lights, eat fresh caught salmon every week, and
I never tire of the mountains!

I have lived in Saint Marys, a Yup'ik Eskimo village for 5 years. It's beautiful, wild, and the school district is wonderful. I met my fiance here, a former Wisconsinite and also a teacher. We are finishing up our last year "in the bush" and are hoping to find our permanent home in Southeast Alaska soon.

I have taught Preschool through First Grade, but my favorite is Kindergarten! They learn so much in just a year! I love seeing the children go from knowing a handful of letter sounds to becoming good readers!

My goal in creating this blog is to be more reflective. I think a major part of becoming a happier teacher is to examine why I'm doing things the way I am. I hope some of my thoughts will be inspiring for others, and I'm hoping to learn a lot through comments as well! There are so many great teachers and great ideas out there! Let's collaborate!
